North of Versilia the coast landscape changes and forms a beautiful natural arc, the Poets’ Gulf. Lerici, a picturesque resort, with its castle, overlooks the entrance of the gulf. On the opposite side of the gulf is Portovenere, famous for its typical houses, tall, narrow and brightly coloured.

Continuing towards the north, the coastal territory, rough and steep, has been cultivated with vine and olive tree terraces for centuries: these are the Cinque Terre. Five villages like five jewels: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza e Monterosso, with brightly coloured houses, steep steps which go down to the sea, roads dug out of the rocks like the delightful Via dell’Amore (love’s way) between Riomaggiore e Manarola with its breathtaking views.
